Skin Cancer Clinic

As a leading dermatology centre in Singapore, the National Skin Centre (NSC) has introduced a weekly Skin Cancer Clinic to provide expertise and comprehensive care for patients diagnosed with skin cancer.

Skin cancer is the 7th most common cancer in Singapore and the incidence rate continues to climb. It is the most common type of cancer in the United States and Australia. An increasing expatriate population in Singapore will further increase the incidence in Singapore. Untreated or undiagnosed skin cancer can cause significant local destruction and may be potentially life threatening.

The main focus of the Skin Cancer Clinic is on prevention, early diagnosis and the formulation of an individualized treatment plan for skin cancers. This includes ordering relevant investigations, arranging for appropriate therapy, (performed either in house or collaboration with other specialties) and coordinating follow up management. The Clinic will operate every Thursday.

The Clinic will be linked closely with NSC’s Dermatological and Laser Unit which can undertake tumor extirpation via curettage and cautery, conventional surgery, laser and Mohs micrographic surgery. For more superficial tumours, the Clinic can supervise the use of cryotherapy, topical anti-tumour creams and photodynamic therapy. The Clinic will also collaborate with other specialists including radiotherapists, oncologists, plastic and oculoplasticsurgeons for optimal treatment of these patients.

The new Clinic will also function as an information resource for affected patients and their care givers, while enhancing training for doctors. The Skin Cancer Clinic will boost NSC’s capability in the management of skin cancer, and offer expertise in both medical and surgical therapy for patients with skin cancer.
